Peta
While walking on the shelter property, the manager heard a low growl coming from behind the storage shed. Going closer, the growl turned into a defensive bark. Then, there she stood, a beautiful dog with a ‘don’t get near me’ posture. After three days of trying, and not being able to get near her, the shelter manager decided something had to be done to help her. A trap was put out for her. She became even angrier in the trap. With the help of a volunteer, the trap, complete with the dog, was carried into the shelter, down the hall and into the quarantine kennel. She was put into the kennel, assessed as best as could be under the circumstances, and fed. We received information, and, if correct, she had spent most of her life in a crate, neglected. It was soon easy to see that is wasn’t anger on her part, but fear. Being the smart girl she was, she figured out that she was in safe, caring hands. Volunteers spent time loving her and walking with her. Peta’s needs were not visible, medical wounds, but were emotional. The shelter provided a place and an atmosphere for her to make her turn-around. After seeing her posted online, a family from north Florida came to meet her. They understood that she would most likely need a little extra time to become comfortable. As we recall, it was a unanimous decision among the family members that Peta would be going home! It was a happy ending for this girl who had been so neglected, to have an entire family to love her...
