It was in 2010, a volunteer found a little ball of mange beside a lake. It was a little puppy, all alone. She brought the puppy to the shelter. With treatment and TLC, her conditioned healed. ~That puppy was our Ms Mac.~ Over the years, Ms Mac has seen many kennel mates and volunteers come and go. She has been one of the favorites for almost all of those volunteers. Due to her shyness, when adopters come to visit, she will walk away from them rather than to them. This makes her seem like an unlikely choice for most adopters. However, as the volunteers, who have spent time with her, will quickly tell you, she is an awesome friend. She has fun playing in the yard, enjoys her walks, is well-mannered, clean, and dependable. After ODCHS shared Ms Mac’s story in 2015, she was adopted. The adoption was short-lived. After five days in a new place, Ms Mac went out of an overlooked gap in the fence. Volunteers and the community (ODCHS has amazing friends), searched for her. After three weeks, she was found; shaken, much thinner, and in one piece! She was returned to the shelter. Some think she was running away. She may have been, but maybe she was only trying to get back to the only place she had known as home. After this adoption, it was mentioned that maybe she should ‘stay at the shelter‘. It is hard to believe that Ms Mac, with just the right person, would not thrive in a home. It just doesn’t seem as if a dog who so many love and who loves so many, does not have a match. Nor does it seem as if any dog should live their entire life in a shelter. Recent adoptions of long-timers and special needs orphans have renewed the hope for an adopter for Ms Mac. Thanks to ODCHS supporters, while she waits, she has a safe place to be loved and cared for...
Update-After seeing her photo and reading her story on a national adoption site, potential adopters drove several hours to meet Ms Mac. During the meet and greet, Ms Mac approached the visitors, something very rare for her to do with new people. At that moment, it was obvious that her life was about to change; and it did! Ending her record-long stay at the shelter, Ms Mac had met her family! Last we heard, they were all working together to make it a smooth transition and it was going well! Hope has no expiration date-just ask Ms Mac.
