A Little History
Although groups of concerned residents of Dale County have been rescuing abandoned animals for many years, the official Ozark-Dale County Humane Society (ODCHS), a no-kill shelter, was established by the John Neher family in October of 2004 and was granted a not-for-profit status by the IRS as a 501(c)3 organization in August of 2005.
When the Dale County shelter facility closed and the county contracted their services to the City of Ozark, the opportunity to establish a non-profit shelter at that location became possible. The Dale County Commissioners voted to lease the vacant shelter facility to ODCHS. That was many years ago and we're still sheltering local abandoned and homeless cats and dogs.
The ODCHS is funded entirely by supporters through financial donations and fundraisers. We receive no local, state, or federal funding. We are also not affiliated with the Ozark Animal Control Shelter. ODCHS would have never survived as long as it has without our wonderful, amazing, and dedicated volunteers. We are extremely grateful to them.
When people ask what ODCHS needs most, the reply is usually monetary donations and volunteers. Pet food, and cleaning supplies are also needed constantly. Most of the animals at our shelter have not been fortunate to experience the lasting kindness of a family. Please consider giving our temporary boarders some of your time. Walking and grooming dogs and playing with the cats will make a significant contribution to their lives until they are adopted into their forever homes.
Thank you!
